We have our day without cruising in Colombiers today and so the obvious thing was to head to the Oppidum which has an amazing view over this incredible land formation of fields in the site of an old lake. We took the bikes up and had to push a fair bit of the way to get to the lookout. Up there was access to a museum, which we weren’t that keen on, but hey, 6 euros per adult, why not. Boy, I’m glad we went in to the Oppidum itself, it’s an amazing garden on the site of an ancient Roman fortified village.

Obviously wonderful views, but great nature, wildflowers etc alongside 2000 year old Roman walls and a small museum with tons of ceramics, jewellery and the like. Really nice!

If we’d planned better, we might have taken a picnic with us as it’s been a beautiful day…however, no need to feel sorry for us as after whizzing back down to the port, we sat straight down at L’Eclusier restaurant which turns out to be rather good and plied us with poached eggs with morels, boudin noir with mash, framboisier, coffee and a nice local white. Once again, the kids were only too happy to wolf down good steak and well-prepared mash.

We are all very happy again – 2YO asleep on deck, Mama asleep in a cabin, 5YO and I watching The Incredibles 2 and Mamie on her way in the train from Paris.
