You know my earlier remark about canal saisonniers being dismissive and rude about ingénu tourists? Well, I reckon it doesn’t take long to get off the first rung of that ladder. We are quietly parked up at Colombiers when there’s a sudden thud of impact from a barge of a boat (another Le Boat, bigger than us) parking next to us. I whizzed up the stairs to see a smiling man gawping over. When I asked him if he had anything to say, first he declared simply “I don’t speak French”. I eventually extracted a sorry from him, although clearly he hadn’t registered he’d done anything to apologise about. I can only imagine how judgmental I would get if I spent more than a couple of weeks here!
