Unfortunately my planned hitting the road for the running phase has had to be rejigged a bit as 5YO needed to go to the doctor’s. Tonsilitis, it turns out (so obviously I can only imagine she got it from me – oh dear), fingers crossed her temperature will recede tomorrow as the penicillin takes effect and we’ll get back on track.
I’ve made some headway with the family research side of things, signing back up to Ancestry and uncovering a few great information sources like:
- http://www.recordoffice.org.uk/resources/searchable-databases/
- https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/leisure-and-community/libraries/reference-library/local-and-family-history
- https://www.gilmortonparishcouncil.gov.uk/
And from the wikipedia page on Gilmorton, I saw reference to a tantalising volume, “A History of the Parish of Gilmorton in the County of Leicester”, so I’ve managed to order that via Abe Books (it will be printed on demand, then shipped…from India. I cannot explain that.)
Oh, I guess I may not have already mentioned, but when I did my earlier round of Ancestry research a few years back, I traced the Sleath line back to about 1500, and Gilmorton was very much our base of operations back then. Hence the otherwise unlikely fascination with the place.
