The Hague Weekend

The first weekend in our series of four was a trip to The Hague to meet up with friends. The female contingent of this group of friends have known each other since school in France, and have conveniently married nice people and had children at similar sorts of times. Anders and Sarah now live in The Hague, and we’ve previously met up in Lyon and London.

I’ve been to a few places in Netherlands, but never before in The Hague. It is surprisingly close to Amsterdam, and a pretty short train ride from Schiphol, then a trivial tram ride to the right place. It was a very relaxed weekend – well, as relaxed as six children together can be. Lovely to see them all playing together, and finding common languages (the base is French, but there’s English in there, and a bit of Dutch and Danish).

The weather was a bit strange – pretty nice at all times, except when we went to the beach, when it was cold and windy. Whilst that ruled out paddling or even much of a walk, the Strandtent Zuid served up an excellent brunch and was worth the journey on its own.

I also managed a pleasant 5 mile run on the Sunday morning. I’d overlooked how much I like the Netherlands, and The Hague is really nice. I also listened to Adam Buxton talking with Charlotte Gainsbourg, which was also very enjoyable.
