Royal Parks Half-Marathon

Pretty much every sports-type gathering has been cancelled for the last 12 months, certainly running events have been completely clobbered. The London Marathon took place in October (rather than April) as an Elite-only event.

I’d entered the Royal Parks Half-Marathon a long time ago and of course that changed from a “hopefully in October thing will be ok” to a “well, let’s try for April next year”. And in the end, there was no way to proceed with this in the usual way, with 20,000+ runners plus support crowds etc. So, fair play to the organisers, they took another approach – run it wherever you like, at any time during Sunday 11th April, and an app will both ensure people participate fairly, and add a bit of social and moral support.

Very satisfying to take part (I see about 3300 people did, via the app – obviously far fewer than would in normal circumstances) and actually I really quite liked arriving back home and in the shower 10 minutes after stopping running, rather than having to find bag, shuffle through crowds, fight back through public transport etc…
