Ciné Lockdown

For a bit of social interaction, a bunch of us started watching films simultaneously on Sunday nights, for the shared experience and quite a lot of silly banter via WhatsApp (and, later, Signal).

We have watched:

DateFilmNotes
27th December 2020Die Hard
3rd JanuaryDie Hard 2
10th JanuaryDie Hard 3
17th JanuaryGoldfinger
24th JanuaryThe Spy Who Loved Me
31st JanuaryFor Your Eyes OnlyBetter than I remembered, although a circuitous plot given basic procedural police work would have found the wreck’s location shortly after the murder at the start.
7th FebruaryDiamonds Are ForeverJesus wept, this hasn’t aged well. Just a bad film, and “exotic” locations are: a) Las Vegas and b) an oil rig.
14th FebruaryThe Living Daylights
21st FebruaryGoldeneye
28th FebruaryTomorrow Never Dies
7th MarchCasino Royale
14th MarchThe Fifth Element
21st MarchLeonMost of us streamed the “director’s cut” which turns out to be much longer, packed with much more uncomfortable love interest between Reno and Portman. I recall this being vaguely hinted at in the original, rather than definitely actualised.
28th MarchThe Matrix
11th AprilFight ClubOn rewatch, I stake the claim this film (presumably the book prior, although I haven’t read it) coined the term “snowflake” in the way we know it widely today.
18th AprilSnatch
25th AprilOcean’s Eleven
2nd MayThe Bourne Identity This was going to be Lucky Number Slevin, but that doesn’t seem to be available via any streaming service in UK
9th MayGone in 60 Seconds
16th MayTaken
23rd MayThe Bourne Supremacy
30th MayThe Bourne Ultimatum
6th JuneThe Gentlemen

There were plans for Team America: World Police and also suggestions of Grosse Pointe Blank and The Thomas Crown Affair…but Euros (postponed from 2020) and the easing of lockdown meant no futher Ciné Lockdowns materialised.

I did chance my arm at a group viewing of Split Second in November 2022, but it ended up being a solo caper.
