Noirmoutier Holiday

We’ve been having a very relaxing holiday and I’ve only just realised it would be a good idea to do some writing on the old blog. As a quick synopsis, we’ve done something similar to last year, with a bit of a twist. Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen at the end of July (avoiding airports, train stations and Dover was a happy outcome!), a weekend in Deauville, then a work-week in Caen with my in-laws whilst they looked after the girls.

Deauville was fantastic, I’ve wanted to go for years, it’s very smart and pleasant, up-market without being too grandiose. Yes, fairly expensive, that’s true.

We then went down to the Vendée, staying in an AirBnB near my folks, so lots of time with them and quite a few bits of admin taken care of, including stacking a large wood delivery in the carport ready for winter and the inevitable IT support tasks! We had a great afternoon at the local lake which was unfortunately closed for swimming due to algae (because of the heat) but the water slides were open which suited the girls down to the ground!

We also had a nice trip to the Abbey at Nieul sur l’Autize, which is a very flash facility.

Then we came up to the NW corner of Vendée to Noirmoutier, which we’d intended to visit in 2020 but obviously couldn’t in the end. It was worth the wait! We found a beach club location (there are two – Les Sableaux and La Guerinière) and then an AirBnB near one of them. We stretched the budget for the AirBnB but that was very worthwhile, it’s a great place and a home from home. La Guerinière is a small settlement with the basics you need, a big Thursday market and a selection of nice chilled beaches.
