We are currently working out a plan for a big bit of travel in Summer 2024, as a belated birthday trip for Aurélie’s birthday, and also to mark the end of Violet’s time in primary school!
As of September 2023, we’ve basically got approval in principle to take the necessary time off from our work, and we’re evaluating options for the adventure! Here’s some thinking:
- South East Asia backpacker type
- Pros: Different, interesting, stable-ish weather, affordable (once you’re there)
- Cons: Schlepping around with backpacks may not be super easy for kids, Food options may be a problem for kids
- Cross-USA or Cross-Canada roadtrip
- Pros: Easy food options, all quite familiar, loads of nature
- Cons: Expensive, lots of (too much?) driving, only 1-2 countries visited
- Europe Interrailing
- Pros: Travel is affordable (kids are free!), lots of countries, interesting, varied
- Cons: Less obviously an adventure, given we live in Europe
