The Eurostar ended up being 40 minutes late into Brussels, but that was ok, we had ample time to pop over to the Brasserie Belge opposite for a beer and a few chips and cubes of salami and cheese. The very shiny ICE train to Frankfurt left more or less on time, but picked up a few delays. That cut down our change time at Cologne, so I couldn’t drag the family outside to see the cathedral (I suspect, no, I know 100%, that I am the only one bothered by this! 🤣), but we got the rather less shiny ICE train towards Berlin, which also left kind of on time…but then announced hefty delays due to track work near Wuppertal. Having the DB app on my phone is handy (spot the weak German language joke there) as it explains everything (in English) and also has a “check alternatives” button, which informs me there’s a train to Kiel that departs from our platform after our train reaches Hannover.

The upshot is that we’re definitely going to be a bit late but not ridiculously so, and as we were already arriving “out of hours” at the guesthouse (whose reception closes at 6pm), it doesn’t really change anything.
The forecast tomorrow is: Hot. And not raining really, but I’m sure mega-humid.
