Well, this was a high point…we arrived at the gates to the Tivoli Gardens at about 10.45am on Friday. We joined a sizable queue, so we were a bit apprehensive, but once doors opened at 11am, we were soon inside. We’d decided to get the ride pass for the girls (so they could go on as many rides as they liked) and just the entry ticket for us two. I think this made sense – you have to do about 6 rides for the unlimited pass to make sense, which the girls certainly did!
Now, we were absolutely spoiled with a beautiful sunny day, warm, but not excessively hot, so that should be taken into consideration…but we all thought Tivoli Gardens was absolutely ace.

Some queues for rides, sure, but nothing extreme – the only one we eventually binned off was the Ferris wheel.

The girls went on the swing carousel about 6 times during the day, the star tower a couple of times, we saw the fish feeding in the aquarium, there was a ride about the tales of Hans Christian Andersen (several of which I’d never heard of – I will look them up), the Galley Ships, the Camel Train, the Monsoon, the FataMorgana – tons of good stuff.

The lunchtime burgers at the Gasoline Grill (which is a Danish chain) we’re excellent.
My favourite bit was in the late afternoon, we managed to grab some beanbags on a grassy area and have a drink listening to music in the sunshine, while the girls went to have a last couple of gos on the swing carousel. Bliss.

We left around 6.30pm, having enjoyed seven and a half hours inside! We wandered back, grabbed a fridge magnet, snow globe and some postcards, and thought we’d just get pizza at the hostel. Here’s where things went slightly wrong.
We’d secured a place on the terrace, I went to order – no nachos and no pizza. Unfortunately, those are what we wanted, and we definitely didn’t want another burger! So we left the hostel… we’d noticed a French restaurant, Pastis, on the corner, so headed there. However, when we sat down, it was clear this was not the right tool for the job. No kids menu and basically steak or moules. On another day, absolutely perfect, but not after a tiring day where we just want something easy!
We awkwardly got up and left – the staff didn’t mind, of course they probably could have told us it wouldn’t be entirely suitable, but had been too polite to do so! Google Maps told me there was a pizza place close by…it turned out to be a takeaway, so I ordered, nipped to the 7-11 for drinks, we scoffed a beer while we waited and then headed back to the hostel to eat.
We refound our place on the terrace and only as we began to tuck in did 9YO pipe up “house rule 5 is that you can’t bring in food from outside”… anyway, we finished (quickly) our pizzas unmolested, found bins for the rubbish with no confrontation, and scattered for bed.
