We’d already been informed that the line from Copenhagen to Malmö was messed up – SJ.se had texted me 10 days ago to say we’d need to take the Oresundstag to Malmö and then change. Fine – this meant a slightly earlier start, so I booked a taxi with the Viggo app (basically, Danish Uber). This was a double good idea, as the beautiful weather of yesterday had been replaced with grey and rain. So we got to the station early, dry, and having enjoyed a nice chat with Vinncent in his immaculate AMG Merc.
The 0714 had some noisy lads who gave off an air of dodginess, and interestingly at Hylle, when an official came on to check passports at border control, they got off the train rather than be checked! There were two regular commuters next to us who indicated it’s unusual for ID to be checked on the route.
So we got to Malmö…but they announced there were problems at Lund affecting ALL onward trains. Oh dear. We were early anyway, so crossed our fingers and hit the coffee shop for Breakfast #1. My warm Kanelbulle (cinnamon roll) was excellent.

There was quite a period of chaos as trains got cancelled, re-announced, moved to one platform, then another!
Lots of looking at apps, talking to other passengers, anyone in a hi-vis vest, waiting anxiously…but eventually (and actually only an hour later than planned), we got on a train, took our seats, and off we went.
I had been looking at other options and booked the first available later train (1607) as an insurance policy. The Interrail pass was good here, as a full price ticket would have been nearly 5000kr (only 1st class seats available), but the seat reservations only were 600kr (£45). Amazingly, the refundable option was cheaper than the non-refundable, so once our train got past Lund, I cancelled them. Beautiful.
The weather was SO good yesterday, but clearly less good near Lund, where lightning had destroyed “two computers” according to the driver of our train who we spoke with on the platform at Malmö. And today it is grey and wet – perfect for being in a warm train with free-flowing coffee.
