Our Favourite Cities

We’ve maintained a highly unscientific league table of our favourite (and less preferred) cities. This is based purely on our subjective experience, and we acknowledge that we may have sucked the marrow out of some places (Bratislava, maybe?) while barely tasted others (Warsaw, for one). Nevertheless, here is the list:

  1. Copenhagen, Split – a draw. Tivoli Gardens on the one hand; a swimming pool and speedboat trip on the other.
  2. Riga, Bled – another draw. Riga was a great old town, really chilled, great walking tour & silk screen printing was really fun. Bled was beautiful, with water play fun too.
  3. Stockholm – OceanBus tour, Paradox museum, good walking.
  4. Budapest – Palatinus Baths. Good walking tour. Good hostel. Good public transport.
  5. Bratislava – nice old town, especially in evening. Big fountain.
  6. Vilnius – good bike tour. Hostel was quirky.
  7. Krakow – lovely main square, nice apartment (although lousy TV)
  8. Hamburg, Warsaw – both great experiences (Hamburg’s park, Warsaw’s Copernicus museum & Chopin recital), but they were both short visits in big cities.
  9. Tallinn, Dubrovnik – Tallinn’s silk painting was great, but the girls didn’t like the vibe of Tallinn so much. And while our hotel in Dubrovnik was fun, the city was packed and expensive. 100 euros to walk on your walls? Stroll on.
  10. Vienna – too big, too expensive, too smug.
