Time continues to behave strangely, particularly the long days but infinitesimally short weeks. 5YO is back with online school, and is in year 2, so won't be going back to the premises any time soon. I suspect not until September. 3YO starts at the local nursery 3 days a week from Monday, which will be … Continue reading Lockdown, week 13, maybe?

Lockdown Diary, Week 9
We continue to cope in the weird limbo that the world finds itself in. I'm definitely keeping Amazon busy, mainly with items in the following categories: Office & schoolwork supplies: erasers, felt pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, inkjets, mouse mat, stencilsDIY/housework-related: insulation tape, telescopic squeegee, paintbrushes, new kitchen plugs (when you do the washing up umpteen … Continue reading Lockdown Diary, Week 9
Lockdown Diary, week 8
I've been remiss in so far not using this blog to record my thoughts, expectations and coping strategies for the Lockdown. Today marks the 8th consecutive Monday I've been at home rather than at work. My wife's been in the same position; our 5 year old has been at home since 17th March, and our … Continue reading Lockdown Diary, week 8
William Blake at Tate Britain
I've always been fond of William Blake, from poems like Tyger, Tyger and Jerusalem but also his dramatic, deity (or demon)-infused paintings. So even though I'd planned to visit this exhibition, as always, I left it to pretty much the final day before attending. I have visited the old Tate before via boat, which is … Continue reading William Blake at Tate Britain
Running Update for March
I'm woefully behind blog updates, so need to catch up before things get out of hand. At the least, I'm pleased to report that I'm up to date with running against the 500 mile goal for the year. Every proper run I've done has been tracked in runkeeper, and the scores are: January 52.6 miles … Continue reading Running Update for March
Madrid
I had a work trip straight after Chamonix which had been planned for Tenerife, but given the COVID-19 outbreak about a mile away, it hardly seemed sensible to stick with that idea. Really annoying, given the official advice remained that travel is ok, which limits how much cancellation refund could be obtained, but it's hard … Continue reading Madrid
Lucian Freud Portraits
I popped along to this exhibition at the Royal Academy. I've seen a fair bit of Lucian Freud over the years, often his stark portraits of others - this exhibition had a lot of his self-portraits, many from private collections. I can't help thinking when looking at Lucian Freud's paintings and back story, "you mad … Continue reading Lucian Freud Portraits
Kitchen Refresh
It's been on the list for a while, but I finally had a bit of spare time to redo the kitchen walls. I'd already done the ceiling, and rashly decided to daub the worst marks/discolourations on the walls with the same white paint.
500 miles…starts now
I ran inconsistently in 2019, and 2018 come to that. Around 220 miles each year. I reckon I can knock that up a notch in 2020 and intend to get 500 miles squared away, i.e. 10 miles a week or so, or 1.5 miles per day on average. I certainly won't video or chronicle most … Continue reading 500 miles…starts now
Moonfleet Manor
After my work trip to Mexico, and to coincide with First Born's second week of half-term, we nipped down to Weymouth to Moonfleet Manor for some family time together. Well, "nipped" implies an alacrity that reality determinedly denied us. I'd booked an A3 with Zipcar, to make it easy to pick up with easy admin. … Continue reading Moonfleet Manor
